i got to know some Austrian words from Arnold’s book “Total Recall” that is my companion all the time as i pick a page and go through it or see some pictures and read some portion of the book. It gives me a lot of happiness to read and glance through the book. Some words that i picked up in Austrian are : Haupterschule (school), Gendermerie ( i don’t remember the meaning of this word but it has to do something with police since Arnold used this word in the book for something related to his father), Hausfrau (housewife), Gaesthaus (guesthouse).
i read that Arnold didn’t get kind treatment from his father Gustav Schwarzenegger and in fact he often got hit by his father. That’s really very unfortunate. But Arnold got the kick to become somebody big because of the harsh behavior he got from his father. Arnold also writes that he never treats or has treated his own sons Patrick and Christopher the way he got the treatment from his father Gustav. Arnold describes the reason for this harsh behavior due to the conditions and circumstances after the World War - 2 Austria being occupied by the forces. Arnold always had the dream of going away to America - the land of his dreams, and he didn’t find himself comfortable in Austria. Arnold writes that there was a sense of frustrations all around the country and Arnold always told his friends in the school that he had the vision and dream of going to America. But he never knew through what and how he would achieve his dream and later when he grew up he found his inspiration in bodybuilding.

Thanks glower for the superb pictures. Never seen Arnold with such long hair except in the Conan movies. Must be from that time and place. But the exercising latest pictures of Arnold are the most magnificent ! Read in his book “Total Recall” about Arnold’s heart surgery and how he had a defective aorta replaced and the surgeons had to open him up twice since the first attempt was not successful and Arnold was really scared. Who wouldn’t be ? He was advised that he shouldn’t do weight training after that throughout his whole life. But Arnold has defied all those things and he is still working out and that brings happiness to me. No one can stop Arnold. He is simply the “King” as you have named this thread. There is no force on earth that can stop Arnold. Arnold Rules !!! Also read about the very touching and moving description of Arnold in the book about his mother’s demise. Arnold had asked and offered his mother invitation to live in America so that her son :Arnold—could take care of her but she didn’t want to leave Austria. Arnold couldn’t visit his father’s and brother’s funeral but he really was saddened by his mother’s passing away. He was really close to his mother and treated her like a queen and of course his mother was really very, very proud of his son : Arnold !!! She used to often visit her son in all the movie-sets of Arnold’s films and also used to spend time with Arnold and his family, especially enjoying time spent with Arnold’s children. She was of course a great lady who endured lots of pain to bring up Arnold and his brother Meinhard. Unfortunately Arnold’s father and Meinhard too passed away and both Arnold and his mother were pained at their deaths. Reading the book seems like everything in Arnold’s life is happening right before my eyes. Such a wonderful book is : “Total Recall”, Arnold’s unbelievably true life story.
